BELLFLOWER

Nestled in southeast Los Angeles County, California, Bellflower is a vibrant city brimming with history and community spirit. Founded in 1906 and incorporated on September 3, 1957, Bellflower has evolved from its agricultural roots into a bustling suburban enclave within the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

With a population of 76,616 as of the 2010 census, Bellflower boasts a rich heritage shaped by its fertile farmland, once irrigated by artesian wells and the San Gabriel River. Originally known as Somerset, the city derived its present name from the bellflower apple, a fruit cultivated in local orchards during the early 1900s.

Bellflower's early settlers comprised small communities of dairy farmers, including those of Dutch, Japanese, and Portuguese descent. The city, along with neighboring Paramount, flourished as a center for apple and milk production until post-World War II property values prompted a shift toward residential development.

Throughout the 1950s and late 1960s, Bellflower Boulevard emerged as a vibrant commercial hub, featuring a diverse array of shops, boutiques, and restaurants. Today, Bellflower maintains its allure as a thriving community, with a diverse population and a range of amenities to cater to residents' needs.

Situated within the Los Angeles metropolitan area, Bellflower enjoys convenient access to neighboring cities such as Downey, Norwalk, Lakewood, and Long Beach. The city is bordered by these municipalities, contributing to its interconnectedness within the Southeast Los Angeles County region.

Bellflower benefits from essential services provided by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Care Ambulance Service, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Additionally, the United States Postal Service operates the Bellflower Post Office, ensuring seamless mail delivery for residents and businesses alike.

As a member of the Gateway Cities Council of Governments, Bellflower continues to thrive as a dynamic community, offering a blend of residential, commercial, and recreational opportunities for its residents. With its rich history, diverse population, and strategic location, Bellflower remains a cherished destination within the vibrant tapestry of Los Angeles County.
